Ways You Can Improve Your Garden With These Simple Tips

Growing Avocado in Pot or Container

Posted on May 11, 2021

The avocado tree is one of the easiest plants to care for and is suitable for a beginner pot gardening. The only plant that is more recommended for pot gardening is the banana plant, which can also be grown in a container. The main differences between these two plants are their growing requirements. They also have different needs when it comes to fertilizers, soil types and other things. If you are looking for a container garden that does not take up a lot of space, then this is definitely the plant for you.

Growing an avocado plant in pot is very easy. It does need some careful handling however. The plant should be kept under the shade because it has large leaves that can burn your eyes. If the area where you are planning to put the plant is in the coastal areas, then you should also consider putting the plant under the water. This is mainly because the leaves of this plant tend to get wet due to its ability to grow in the salty and coastal conditions. You will notice that they stay pretty dry most of the time.

Keep the drainage of your container or pot good. Too much water can drown the roots of your plant. So, make sure to place the avocado plant in an area where it does not get too much water. It may also help if you place a rock over the soil of the container. This will further increase the drainage.

Keep your plant away from strong winds. If you are growing your plant in a container, then you may use Styrofoam as a container material. However, if you are growing the plant in the ground, then you have to stick to rocks or concrete. This is especially true if you are living in a coastal area. If you are not sure about the direction of the wind, you can always move the container.

Keep your avocado plant away from weeds and pests. You can put fertilizer drops on the soil around your plants. You can also water your avocado plant from time to time. But remember that if you do not dig the soil properly, weeds will sprout in no time at all.

Make sure that the soil around your plants are moist. If the soil around your container is dry, it will be hard for the plant to absorb the nutrients from the fertilizer. So, keep the soil moist. Do not wait until it becomes too wet. It should be dry by the time you place the plant into the container.

If you do not have enough room in your container, you can opt for container gardening. There are a lot of plants that can grow well in small spaces. You just have to find the type that would best suit your requirements. Or, you can place your plants upside down. That way, the roots will have access to oxygen. Just make sure that the container does not have too many curves.

When it comes to cooking, you may use the avocado plants in pot as a great addition to your recipe. You can steam them or boil them for a nice treat. You can also puree the avocado flesh for a smooth and creamy recipe. It is very easy and healthy to grow an avocado plant inside a pot.

When you have planted your avocado in a pot, there are still some things you need to do. The first is to decide whether you will plant it indoors or outside. Although growing plants in a container provides easier space management, it also means you have less room for error. For example, if you are planning to plant the seedlings upside down, it is best that you place them in a sunny area. It should receive at least six hours of sunlight.

Once your seedlings are ready, you may move them inside the house. Keep in mind that your plants will need about six hours of light every day. However, if you live in a place that is too cold, you may just have to put them outdoors in the morning. Just remember to turn them as often as necessary. They will soon turn into healthy and fine-looking avocado. Once they are ready, you can place them back into their pot if you want to harvest them later.

Now you must know how to care for them once they are inside your home. The water they require should be provided from inside the home during the hottest part of the day. You may use a water sprayer or a large watering can. If you have planted the avocado in a pot, there should be enough water built up in the soil. Make sure to let your plant get enough water so as to avoid fungus problems.
