Ways You Can Improve Your Garden With These Simple Tips

How To Choose The Right Scented Geranium Plants For Your Home

Posted on June 11, 2021

You’ll love the cheerful, aromatic scent of scented geranium plants as they grow and bloom in your flower garden. Scented geranium plants grow very well even in shaded windowsills, or as potted indoor plants. They’re also an excellent container herb garden for apartment balconies. In fact, their aromatic shape and aromatic scent make scented geranium plants very lovely indoor house and garden plants. You’ll find that there are many types of scented geranium plants available.

Geranium is a Latin word meaning “garden flower”. That’s because the plant is an evergreen perennial herb that can grow up to six feet tall. There are several different varieties, including African, Caribbean, Chinese, Italian, Japanese and Maltese geranium varieties. Each one has its own distinctive flavor, color, aroma, flowers, and growth habit.

African Geraniums or Asparagus Geranium or Peppermint Geranium – Also known as Pennyroyal, the Asparagus variety comes in a variety of color flowers. These include white, pinkish purple, lavender, and a red-orange. They’re among the least bothered varieties by bees, so planting them in an area free from bees could be a problem, but as a home gardener, you might consider planting these in a spot with minimal to no bee issues. The Pennyroyal flowers open wide, so you will have lots of space to spread out your scented geranium plantings. They don’t like a lot of fertilizer and are good growing herbs for the summer months.

Cascara Orchid or Rosemary Geranium – These are the easiest of the group to grow. They have a fern-like foliage that is also very aromatic. They’re ideal for shady areas, since they do well without sunlight. These plants come in many different varieties, including the more ornate Cascara, with petals that resemble a miniature flore.

Geranium Plants and Scents – Although not on the list of the most difficult gardening plants, these two are worth mentioning because they allow you to develop a scent for your house plants, and even for your indoor garden. In order to get the most out of your geranium plants, you should water them on a regular basis. You should be able to tell when the soil is dry, because it will look less vibrant. If you’re growing your geranium plants indoors, then you might consider growing them in a pot instead of a large container, since the soil can drain much easier than the bigger container. However, if you’re growing them outdoors, it’s important that you keep the soil moist, so keep watering at least a few times a week.

Caring For Your Scented Geranium Plants – One way you can care for your scented geranium plants is by providing them with as many lighting hours as possible. Since these herbs like the sun, they need about six hours of light each day, so place them where the sun can shine. If you live in an area where it snows, then you can grow your herbs in a pot instead of a larger container, since pots can drain much easier than the bigger containers. However, if you do want your herbs to grow indoors, you can place them in an area with six to eight hours of sunlight each day. You can purchase indoor growing lights designed for herbs, which are perfect for keeping your herbs healthy during the winter months.

Geranium Herbs and Scents – Once you’ve taken care of the requirements for growing your herb garden, you can focus on choosing the best fragrance for your home. The most popular herbs are those with floral fragrances. Rosemary, chamomile, lavender, marjoram, bay leaves, and basil all make great additions to the kitchen, and each has different ways to add color and aroma to your home. You should keep in mind that some scented geranium flowers are more fragrant than others, and you will want to choose those with very strong scents. This may mean you have to buy a bit more of them, but you will enjoy the extra scent your family and friends will be adding to your home.

When choosing the right scents, you will also want to pay close attention to the amount of aroma and color the herb flowers provide. Some people prefer strong scents, and they may find that a combination of a strong and subtle fragrance works best for them. On the other hand, some people don’t like strong scents, so they will want to choose one that has a mild fragrance. If you can find one of each in your particular choice of herb, you can create a great scent that everyone will love.
